From conference coordinator Kathy

Hello!

Summer is speeding by for us at SiWC Central. We can't believe the end up July is coming right up, and that we're only 3 months away from this year's SiWC in October. It may be a cliché that time flies when you're having fun, but that's certainly been true for us so far this summer.

We kicked off the summer season (albeit technically still in late spring) as we always do, with registration opening day. As ever, those of you who were able to register that first afternoon made it the most exciting day of the year for us outside the conference itself. Thank you! And thanks to all of you who have registered since then or who are still planning to register for this year's conference. You make all the hard work of putting SiWC together worthwhile. We appreciate each and every one of you, whether you're able to join us this year or not.

July started with SiWC sponsoring an evening event, "On The Edge: Genre-Defying Fiction," at Iron Dog Books, one of our favourite independent bookstores and this year's SiWC bookstore partner. We were very proud to be a part of this full-house event with famed local authors Lisa Brideau, Frances Peck, and Robin Yeatman. We loved the thoughtful conversations and insights about the rewards and challenges of publishing. Thanks to all the local SiWC peeps who were able to come out to support this event. Registration: End of Early Bird Pricing Approaching

If you are planning to register for this year's conference but haven't yet, July 31 is the last day for our early bird pricing. If you can, register by 11:59:59pm Pacific on the 31st to save yourself a bit of money. https://www.siwc.ca/registration/

Good News Stories

We recently updated our Good News Stories page with a great news story from 2022 scholarship receipient Léa Taranto. Check it out here. We love hearing your good writing news. If you've been to SiWC and have your own good news story that you'd like to share, please email the story and permission to share publicy (or not!) to me at [email protected].

Silent Auction

For those of you who may still be thinking about contributing a silent auction item to this year's conference, I'm including the info from our last newsletter here so you don't have to go hunting for it:

We are currently soliciting donations to our on-site silent auction, to be held at our conference in October. In past years, silent auction items have ranged from book collections to wine baskets to experiences and vacations, with a suggested value ranging from $20-800. If you or your business is interested in contributing to our silent auction and is able to get your donation to Surrey in time for our conference, please email Jenn at [email protected] with the subject line "SiWC 2024 Silent Auction" or similiar.

That's all our news for now. If you're a registrant at this year's conference, you'll start receiving attendee-specific emails about a month before the conference, but, as ever, if you have questions, whether or not you're attending this year, please don't hesitate to reach out to me or to our administrator, Kim, at [email protected]. Kim is your contact for all things registration, including adding master classes or upgrading your registration package.

More soon!

Kathy
